TENNIS IS LIKELY TO BE A TOP DOG AS SPORT BETTING GET LEGALIZED, U.S
In the
United States of America, it was illegal to operate a betting scheme in almost
state. In November 2014, The Public Mind’s National Survey poll found that
there had been a major shift in attitudes towards sport betting in the United
States, showing that 55% of Americans now favored legal sports betting, while
66% of respondents agreed that state law, as opposed to federal legislation,
should regulate this. The poll also suggested that 33% of respondents disagree
with the notion of legislation.
In June
2017, the United States Supreme Court confirmed that it would hear New Jersey’s
case in fall of 2017, but Jeffrey Wall, the U.S Acting Solicitor General, said
that the case could not be heard. Anyway in September 2017, a poll conducted by
the Washington post and the University of Massachusetts Lowell shows 55%
majority of adults in the U.S approve of legalizing betting on pro sporting events.
On Monday
May 14 2018, the U.S Supreme Court ruled that state can legalize sports
betting, thus shattering Nevada’s monopoly on the practice.
Speaking on
CNBC Matt King, FANDUEL CEO said, “ The beauty of tennis is that you could literally
bet on very single hit in the match, every single point, and so it creates a lot
of opportunities for people to engage in the sport”. He strongly believes
tennis has more opportunities to bet and high chances of big earns compared to
basketball and American football.
